I watched this movie because the story was written by William Trevor - Having said that I realize the characters in the movie weren't fully developed except for Maggie Smith. She stole the show so I enjoyed her performance.
What we have here is the middle-aged travel-porn: long on people enjoying vacation/holiday, short on real-world nuisances, and completely self-absorbed. Pleasant but not notably stimulating = good date-film
If you love Maggie Smith you will love this movie. Smith works her magic set to the backdrop of some of the most beautiful Italian scenery.
I liked this DVD. It has a sad ending. The script is strong. It is well acted. It is not good for all ages. Sexual scenes are subtle enough for a younger audience. There is some violence. I like Maggie Smith as an actress.
beautiful setting in Umbria Italy.
wish I was there again.
Maggie Smith a wonderful actor
the ending is predictable but beautiful though unrealistic considering the age of the people involved. nevertheless a chick flick. worth watching even if only for the scenery.
Maggie Smith fan - usually a pleasure to watch this brilliant, unrivaled actress. Not so much here, except for the clothes & maybe the scenery. Timothy Spall in a new light.
This was a beautiful movie to watch. It features gorgeous scenery from the Italian countryside. Several victims of a tragedy form a bond. Maggie Smith plays a rather eccentric woman who invites them all to stay at her house in Umbria. This movie reminds me of slow food - it moves at a leisurely pace with the story unfolding in bits and pieces. Those who wants lots of action and a linear story line will probably be bored.
with the great Maggie Smith. Beautiful clothes and scenery. Also pretty good plot for a chick flick.
