We liked the part when Babar went to the city because it was funny and silly. We liked when Babar got married because it was funny. We did not like the very sad part when Babar's mum died. When the hunter killed the mum Babar cried and that made us a bit sad. Also the king got sick and died so that also made us sad. At the beginning it was tough to find Babar on the page as well.

This book is bad on so many levels. Forget the unabashed colonialist propaganda - the other resounding message is still "judge a book by its cover."

This was one of my favourite books as a kid. An adorable story and a children's classic!
