I had been afraid to watch this movie since it came out because I don't go out for aliens and scary stuff. But it had my beloved Mel in it so I gave it a try. So surprised about how much I enjoyed it--enough to cough up a few bucks and add it to my very spare collection. Had multiple laugh-out-loud-rewind-then-repeat moments (including a suggestion for handling the anxiety of an impending alien invasion with the advice to "calm down and eat some fruit or something"). I agree the plot has lots of holes but the comedy and the very touching relationships between all the family members FAR outweighs any weaknesses for me. This is one I liked watching a 2nd time. Plus is fine to watch with kids.

A preacher named Graham Hess lives on a farm with his children, a son and a daughter, and his brother Merrill. He begins to notice odd occurrences in his crop field but initially dismisses them as people messing around on his field. However, he sees in the news that this is happening in other places in the world too, not just his field, and ends up thinking that perhaps there is some sort of extraterrestrial involvement. This is not your typical alien movie where people are killed and guns are sprayed everywhere. There really isn’t any real fighting worth mentioning. What this movie is really about is the suspense and thrill.

What is wrong with M. Night Shyamalan? Obviously he has a little bit of talent in film making, but he wastes it on complete trainwrecks in terms of story line and believe ability. This is one of the few films of his I enjoy, but the plot is so horrible it is hard to take it seriously.

Yep. Science Fiction at its absolute worst and its most preposterous. Another piece of junk from dizzy director, Shyamalan.

The lousiest Mel Gibson movie I've ever seen or imagined.

Ha! Talk about totally cutting corners here - Get this! - Signs' story about a total, all-out invasion from outer space only featured one single alien, in all. It's true!

Can you believe that "high and mighty" director/writer Shyamalan actually expected the viewer to be so dumb and so unobservant as to believe that the world was being over-taken by hostile extraterrestrials when he only featured a lone invader in the story?.... Now, that's what I call idiotic and insulting!

Since this film had a $72 million budget, surely Shyamalan could've included at least a small army of aliens in the action in order to make Signs' story appear to be somewhat more believable (instead of doing the expected thing by greedily paying himself $12 million and Mel Gibson $25 million).

And, on top of that - When it was finally revealed to the viewer what it took to kill these aliens, it was more than enough to disgust any "thinking" person and get them to wondering whether Signs' story was, indeed, simply being made up as they went along.

Told in the most dull and dry fashion imaginable, Signs' story didn't, in any way, convince this bored viewer that its director, nor its big-name stars, came even close to actually believing in their parts in this completely pedestrian production.

A super suspensful film!

Aside from Close Enocunters of the Third Kind this is one of the most realistic films about aliens!

This is where Shyamalan's movies started to get hilarious. When I mean hilarious, I mean bad but funny. These aliens come to Earth, they master space flight, but they can't even get through a wooden door. Whoops! All the kids talk like adults and all the adults talk like kids. No one talks right in this movie. The aliens can be burned by water, they probably should've thought that through before attacking a planet MOSTLY COVERED IN WATER! These aliens make the Psychlos from "Battlefield Earth" look like professional assassins. I don't know why people like this movie so much but I think it's funny for all the wrong reasons.

This is an excellent film with some beautiful comedic moments and comic acting by almost everyone.

The special features are worth watching, especially to see Mel acknowledging that M. Night didn't let him get away with his acting shortcuts.

Great message about faith and predestination but did Mel really have to be a priest? Couldn't he have been anyone undergoing a crisis of faith? (That was a shortcut on MNS's part.)

I like Mel Gibson. I like him period but it's always nice to see him without a gun in his hand.
