The fun begins as the unsuspecting Otis family moves into the stately, rambling rooms of Canterville Hall where young Virginia meets up with the castle's resident specter: the 400-year old ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville. But while Sir Simon does his moaning, chain-rattling best to frighten the newcomers, Virginia soon befriends him, and learns his sorrowful secret: unless a purehearted mortal agrees to plead his cases before the dreaded Angel of Death, Sir Simon wil be doomed to haunt the Hall for eternity.

A TV movie in every sense of the phrase.

Mediocre production values and lackluster family dynamics almost sink this but then in the second half, Patrick Stewart as the rather Skakespearean ghost and his relationship with the teenaged Neve Campbell pull off a remarkable turn around.

If your looking for a Hallmark/family style movie this might work for you, however considering it is supposed to be based on Oscar Wilde's book I think it missed the mark. The two primary actors did a great job with a poorly written script. The other characters were over acted and underdeveloped.

Not as good as the original but also not as bad as I thought it would be. This time next year would watch it again.
