The Firefly Five Language Visual Dictionary: In this carefully constructed enchiridion, there are plenty of pretty pictures to go with all the varying language descriptions. This book, based on its scenic sights and its heavy, hefty weight, might be worth its weight in gold…it truly, when handled by hand, is like holding a brick ingot; it weighs a ton, and there are plethora of pictures to look at and learn from, and ultimately, it looks like it is meant for having fun. If anything about said book, it is good for a lengthy, ocular look. There are five languages next to each picture, and there will be a notation of M, F, N to give indication that word is of masculine, feminine, or neutrality order. I would have preferred to have notation to show what word matches to what language and have it right beside said written word…but, it is fairly understandable that is always in the same descending order: English, Spanish, French, German, and last Italian. For a reference book, it is very visually inviting; it having many individual chapters, and many parts of subtopics in those chapters, making many more pieces of objects to be beheld; it also has a five language-layered index in the back for alternate searches. I however usually prefer having more word descriptions in reference books that I read, such as like having a slew of synonyms, as which this book seemed to not try to do; still, like I said, based upon all that can be vastly, visually read, it is quite the eye-capturing treat, if that’s something one would want more than they would word wantingly need. When I looked this book up, I assumed THE FIREFLY FIVE LANGUAGE VISUAL DICTIONARY was meant for children with its highly visual nature, as the title and the cover art implies. However, when I got it, not only is it a massive volume, but the terminology contained within is wide-ranging and in-depth. From the nut on a violin to your debit card PIN number, this book contains words you may never even use in your native language; it's that detailed. It also offers a very helpful index in each language; yes, five indices in order for you to find the right term in the right language with ease. It also offers information on the gender of the noun (masculine or feminine, or even neutral), which is much more than I expected. The vernacular is organized by category, such as DIY, society, communications and office automation, science, etc., which makes it easier to find all the words you may need in a given situation. If you're a polyglot like me, learning a number of languages and those languages include English, Spanish, French, German, or Italian, I highly recommend that you take a look at THE FIREFLY FIVE LANGUAGE VISUAL DICTIONARY.
