This book is fast paced and I like the development of the characters. I was an interesting subject and I like the way the story devloped as well. While the female character was not exactly a role model she was very believeable. It appeared she really cared about her son's health and well being. The state trooper helped he even while putting his career on the line.
We would probably all like that type of law enforcement officer to come to our rescue if we need help.

Fast paced, decently written, and entertaining. Their wasn’t much of a mystery but it still came off as a bit of a thriller.

Now that I have read several of this author's works, I have learned that the endless details have no purpose in discovering what is really going on. I suspect she writes a good story, then goes back and adds pages and pages of description of the landscape, clothing, rooms, facial expressions, and sex scenes. If you just ignore the details rather than try to discover clues in them, you will find a well-written investigation. If you try to remember the details, the ending is still a surprise, and you'll discover that trying to keep track of rooms, people's social status, and the landscape had nothing to do with anything. I enjoy her work, but I am pretty sure she gets paid by the page.

I liked this book - but not as much as some of the author's more recent books. Nevertheless, it's clever and features the twists and turns I've come to expect from Ms. Gardner.

I suspect that part of reason I was less into it than the others was that I just finished reading Find Her - which seemed very similar in concept at first. By the middle of the book, the story had diverged wildly from the other one but I had twinges of "I just read this" early on. Probably best not to read those two books back to back.

I also didn't get particularly attached to any of the characters - maybe because there seems to be a lot of effort made to make Catherine unlikable. This was an interesting choice because you'd usually expect a victim of childhood kidnapping to be a sympathetic character. Personally, I want a character to relate to.

When Massachusetts State Trooper, Bobby Dodge is called to a hostage scene, he has to make a choice whether to kill the suspect before the suspect kills his wife and son. After he kills the suspect, he finds himself investigated. There are more murders and he is being set up to take the fall for killing the suspect. This is a page turner and I couldn't put it down.

A real page-turner. Thoroughly enjoyed it a second time, although couldn't remember much of the plot. That makes it a real 'taker'.

This author knows how to develop believable characters and situations and keep you guessing on how her mystery is going to evolve and be resolved.
