Superb acfing all the way around but I, too, am a fan of David Suchet's Poirot. And the Suchet version of Orient, also the best of his Agatha stories. In this story, in Suchet's version, the clever detective does not have all the answers but throughout the story from the Lieutenant's (?) suicide to the woman being stoned to Ratchet's murder, Poirot wrestles with 'what is justice?'

I love this story, though I don't really like the Poirot character; he's just too precious in this version. If you like this version, though, I encourage you to also watch the new version. I really prefer it. But the story is a classic, whoever plays in it. I still remember the first time I read it, how stunned I was when all is revealed. I did not see that coming! Both films do a good job of capturing Christie's obfuscations as well as her broad hints which you may not recognize as such the first time through. It's one of the few films that is even more fun to watch for the 2nd and 3rd times in order to pick up the clues you missed in previous viewings. There's yet a 3rd version which may have shown only on TV. I like that one the least, mainly because I detest watching David Suchet.

Enjoyable film overall. All-star cast, good direction. Not sure how closely it followed the book.

Still remains interesting and worthy.

The 1974 production of Murder on the Orient Express stands tall, very tall, over the 2017 production starring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot. I saw this film when it came out and I was pleased and still am. The cast of actors and the lighting and Albert Finney are top notch. Actor Richard Widmark as the heinous Ratchet is marvelously better than Johnny Depp. The train called the Orient Express still travels to this date.

just saw the Kenneth Branagh theatrical release. didn't think I'd like Branagh as Poirot, but I did. They cast the villain of the piece, well.

This version has beautiful costumes and sets. There is a remarkable cast, except, iMO, for the lead character of Hercule Poirot played by Albert Finney. The tv version with David Suchet (Toby Jones, Jessica Chastain...) remains my favourite, but this is worth seeing for the big names of the time and the big budget production.

I liked the DVD. It was well done. The plot was strong and had a purpose. It was well acted. I detective mystery stories. It is not to violent or sexual for children. I especially like the author.

Murder has seldom been so elegant and so boring. Based on the famous Agatha Christie novel, this is a murder mystery set aboard the famous title train. Albert Finney plays the Belgian detective Hercule Poiriot (he of the "little grey cells"), who is investigating the murder of an American (Richard Widmark). . .and everyone's a suspect! The absurdly overqualified cast includes, well, like 85 actors. Somehow Ingrid Bergman won an Oscar, even though she's only in it for like 15 minutes. It's fun to see all these iconic actors together, but none of them have much to do. Directed, blandly, by Sidney Lumet ("Serpico," "Network"). Peter Ustinov and David Suchet would also play Poirot.
