A kindly grandfather sits down with his grandson and reads him a bedtime story. As the grandfather reads the story, the action comes alive in a classic tale of love and adventure. The beautiful Buttercup is kidnapped and held against her will in order to marry the nasty Prince Humperdinck, while Westley (her childhood beau, now returned as the Dread Pirate Roberts) attempts to save her. Along the way he meets an accomplished swordsman and a giant, both of whom become his companions in his quest.

This is a mishmash of adventure/action, romance, and comedy. A very cool movie for all ages. The wrestler André the Giant (R.I.P) as Fezzik, is charismatic and funny, even though he is a henchmen. Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Criminal Minds, Dead Like Me) is great too, and has excellent comedic timing, such as with one repeated line throughout the film, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Based on the book by William Goldman, the 2007 movie The Princess Bride is interesting... I can understand the nostalgic feeling that some may have when watching this movie, but having never even heard of the book, I watched this movie with no expectations. The story follows Princess Buttercup, engaged to a Prince, though still in love with her deceased Westly a simple Farm boy and her "true love". When Buttercup gets kidnaped before the wedding, she finds herself saved by a mysterious black hooded man. My biggest problem with this movie was that it doesn't seem to know what it is. A cheesy comedy or a forced romance? There are so many character side plots with unnecessary scenes, stiff acting and out of place cuts, I didn't know if I was supposed to laugh or cry. Even the supposed romance seemed one sided. How is Farm boy Westly making all the sacrifices for Buttercup "true love"? 2 Stars

This is my favourite movie of all time. To quote the movie:

Grandson: Does it got any sports in it?
Grandpa: Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.
Grandson: Doesn’t sound too bad. I’ll try to stay awake.

This is by far one of my top all time most favorite movies! I can watch it over and over again. It is so quotable and wonderful, watch it, and it will become one of your favorites too!

This movie has everything- romance, fighting, witches, royalty, trickery, comedy, great actors, giant rodents of unusual sizes, and a wrestling giant.

One of my favorites. Not quite as good as the book, but definitely came close.

One of my personal top five favorite movies! This flick holds up incredibly well with its timeless characters (and adorable actors). Excellently paced, with a fantastic range of comedy and drama. It never takes itself too seriously, and yet you find yourself truly caring for the cast.

Can farmer boy Wesley win back his true love, the stunningly beautiful Buttercup, from the evil plans of crafty Prince Humperdink? He'll need more than an army of trained solidiers for this job-the likes of which include a blood-thirsty bandit, a not-so-smart giant, and a spirited old miracle man. 11+ because of some thematic events, violence including blood, stabbing, fire, biting, blood-curdling screams, sword slices. There is also one mention of the word "son of a b-tch" (I don;t know if there is other language around those lines; I just advise caution).
