'Captain' Nemat is the benevolent dictator of displaced Sunni Muslims living on an old, grounded oil tanker. religious and cultural norms flourish alongside stripping the tanker of anything that can be sold.

eventually the tanker itself is sold for scrap and Nemat leads his people into what he promises will be their new home on land.

an unusual take on being powerless and captive to economic realities.

A fantastic political movie, with a strong message about the lies, manipulations of a dictator. A very sad portrait of lots of small countries in the world. Highly recommend it.
