you've heard of a 'running joke?' it's a running argument amongst poe enthusiasts as to which he is better at: poetry, or short stories. one way to resolve this is to ask how he ranks in either genre. in poetry, he does have a certain following; however, no one would accuse him of being among the first rank..stories, however, is a different story: he IS one of the best story writers in the world, ever.
