Ideal vehicle for Dangerfield, showcasing his usual knock-down hilarious wit, and also some sweetness as he plays Keith Gordon's caring father. One laugh after another from Rodney and fellow cast: Sam Kinison's appearance as a professor and Paxton Whitehead as the wanna-be foil are standouts (the latter's reaction during the test is priceless). Better and more thoughtful than the common college campus comedy. That's composer Danny Elfman as the lead singer of Oingo Boingo during the big party.

Back to School should have earned Rodney some respect. It actually has a lot going for it: Robert Downey Jr. in a supporting role, Harold Ramis on the writing team, memorable and funny (at least to me) lines, Sam Kinison, Oingo Boingo, a cameo by Kurt Vonnegut, and William Zabka ("Sweep the Leg Johnny" from The Karate Kid) playing another villain.

My opinion may be skewed since I like Dangerfield. It's a fun 80s movie.
