Passport to Peril by Robert B Parker is a fast paced and reasonably early Cold War thriller. Set about five years after the war in occupied Austria and Hungry, the hero outwits the Soviet Russians and underground Nazis in the hunt for a Manilla envelope. Although we know what -- lists of names and addresses -- is in the envelope, we never get to know what the contents really are or what they mean. But, that's OK. It's a McGuffin -- a prop simply to justify the chase. Passport to Peril is mostly one long chase with a shadowy spy vs spy feel to it. Pacing is good. A spy thriller very much of its era.

Passport to Peril ---- By Robert Parker (pbk.) c - 2009 / Reprint?? Three Stars ---- I read quite a bit of this book and it is by another man named the same except for the middle name: the writing is slow in comming to whatever the point is! This author passed away in the mid-1950's. ---- (Opps!). ---- The publishers' knew exactly what they were doing, what a shame. ---- Enjoy! ---- (finished 7-19-2012)RichardPaul
