"It really, really, really could happen. Yes, it really, really, really could happen."
-"The Universal"
If you were paying attention to music in the 90s, you might remember the brief, but bright (at least in this country) fire that was Britpop. At the center of that was Blur vs. Oasis. Middle class vs. working class. Arty vs. rockers. North vs. South. Seen in hindsight, it's almost laughable. Yeah, Oasis had some great laddish anthems, but Blur are such a more interesting and creative band that there's really no competition. While I'd suggest listening to everything they've put out (maybe skip their flaccid debut, "Leisure"), this 2-disc, 25-song compilation from 2009 is an excellent interview/overview. It supersedes the earlier, weaker "Best of Blur" set, which went more for the hits. This set makes a claim for a band who even as they conquered the charts were artistically restless and constantly changing, with more in common with Radiohead and Pulp than Oasis or other Britpop casualties. They did put out 6 albums in the 90s. So while you have their sole American hit "Song 2" and early single "She's So High," they exclude the catchy, but goofy "There's No Other Way" and the overblown, but great "Country House," which was the single with which they bested Oasis on the charts. There's not a bad track on here. After a decade on inactivity, the band reunited and put out the good, but uneven "The Magic Whip" in 2015. I'd also recommend the concert film/documentary "No Distance Left to Run" and bassist Alex James's memoir "Bit of a Blur." "Tender is the day the demon's go away."-

Blur is one of the greatest Brit Rockers from the 90's. This compilation album consists of their best and successful songs. It's a double disc and a double whammy!
