A man and a woman tread the lines of danger, desire, and deliverance in this novel of the Fallen Angels—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

As the son of a serial killer, homicide detective Thomas “Veck” DelVecchio, Jr., grew up in the shadow of evil. Now, on the knife-edge between civic duty and blind retribution, he atones for the sins of his father—while fighting his inner demons.

Assigned to monitor Veck is Internal Affairs officer Sophia Reilly, whose interest in him is both professional and arousingly personal. And Veck and Sophia have another link: Jim Heron, a mysterious stranger with too many answers to questions that are deadly. When Veck and Sophia are drawn into the ultimate battle between good and evil, their fallen angel savior is the only thing that stands between them and eternal damnation.

This was the first Fallen Angel novel I’ve read and I didn’t find it as absorbing as the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I suppose it would have helped if I had started with the first book in the series. I don’t know. I did like Veck and Reilly and found them more realistic than most BDB characters, but something was a bit lacking in this novel. It certainly wasn’t Ward’s characteristic dialogue – peppered with gangbanger ghetto slang and puzzling acronyms. I wasn’t quite sure what a character meant when he alluded to being kicked in his BVDs until I googled it. Apparently this is a brand of underwear. You learn something everyday.

Really loved this new 'side' series to the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I can't wait for the newest in the BDB series 'Lover Reborn' to arrive!!

My VERY Christian sister would have an aneurism about the friendship between Colin and Nigel. As long as J.R. doesn't start writing guy-on-guy in as great detail as her hetero love scenes, I'm fine with it. Guest appearances by Jose de la Cruz, a Bastard, and one very fast moving black Escalade. I can't wait for Lover Reborn to find out if Butch and Vishous are in it.
