If you've had to talk to your children about troubling events at home and around the world, this book is a wonderful follow up to those conversations. With beautiful illustrations it reminds us that even in the darkest of times and places, there is hope, and that courage and love are some of the most powerful forces on earth.

A little boy lives behind a barbed-wire fence in the ruins of a war-ravaged village. He cares for a sprout that grows into a beautiful garden on both sides of the fence—despite soldiers’ efforts to destroy it. The beautiful bright illustrations bring the otherwise gray landscape to life while enhancing the story’s hopeful message.

A simple , beautifully illustrated story about healing and renewal and pays gentle tribute to the human spirit. Very touching story.
