This was really interesting but I kept being bothered by the writing style. Especially the conclusions of each chapter/section made me think of high school 5 paragraph essay conclusions.

A brusque and reader friendly tour of the body and its processes and how these relate to other life and the world and the elements too.

I read this book after reading Dr. Shubin's "Your Inner Fish" which gave a biological explanation and examples of evolution in living things as found in the fossil records. "The Universe Within" is more about cosmology and how all things in the cosmos are related; from the atoms to human beings. It is a terrific read and very easy to understand if you are interested in evolution. It is impressive that Dr. Shubin is able to explain in plain english about the beginnings of our universe. A few points in the book were also mentioned in the TV special, "Cosmos, A Spacetime Odyssey".
