A quick read that's worth reading. I read the previous books and they're very encouraging.

Recommended. Human-interest stories, science & medicine, sociology, tips for taking action, & compassion from an African-American doctor in Newark who has been marked by the experiences he's been through. Very easy to read, with no real ax to grind.

This is a wake up book for those who wonder why African Americans are in the health crisis they are in now. The book interweaves what is wrong with the health care of African Americans and others who are poor and living in poverty with his own history. He recounts what he experienced from childhood to adult hood, what motivates him to become a doctor and what we as a individuals and a community can do to not take our bodies for granted. In the end of almost all of the chapters he gives tips on how to recoginze various illnesses and prevent someone from using the E.R. as their only contact with a doctor. If you read "The Pact" then you will enjoy this book as well.
