Good Western.

What a treat to see a Western with an original story. The script is great. The cast is outstanding with Gregory Peck leading the way. Most of all, note the locations the movie was shot in. What an accomplishment to create such facinat8ing sets. A black and white wonder not to be missed!

A poor man's Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Gregory Peck as a villain and Richard Widmark as a sneaky, sometimes demented bad guy.

Certainly worth the ride for fans of both these actors.

Is it me, or is there a large amount of rape talk in post-war Westerns? In the early years, it mostly stayed talk, but still, why? Did film makers want to examine a topic they did not dare approach in a film set in modern times? Or did they want to smuggle more sex into Production Code films, har-de-har? Yellow Sky is basically the story of a tomboy, forced to explore her sexuality with a band of outlaws camped outside her lonely cabin. Don't get me wrong; this is William Wellman, not I Spit On Your Grave. Still, the "near-miss" scenes are so long, they could give someone who has been assaulted (like me) flashbacks. To be fair, Baxter fights back effectively, and does not go girly girly until the end. (She looks pleased when Gregory "Atticus Finch" Peck gives her a flowered bonnet. Awww, that makes up for everything.)
