WW Norton
After a getaway in gorgeous rural Vermont—its mountains ablaze in autumnal glory, its Main Streets quaint and welcoming—Ellen Stimson and her family make up their minds even before they get back to St. Louis: “We’re moving to Vermont!” The reality, they quickly learn, is a little muddier than they'd imagined, but, happily, worth all the trouble.
Follow the author to her wit’s end and back, through her full immersion into rural life—swapping high heels for muck boots; raising chickens and sheep; fighting off skunks, foxes, and bears; and making a few friends and allies in a tiny town steeped in history, local tradition, and that dyed-in-the-wool Vermont “character.”

Baker & Taylor
Trading in her high heels for muck boots, the author chronicles her transition from city life to rural life in Vermont where she and her family, deciding to operate one of the oldest country stores in America, are faced with opposition and distrust by folks who like things just fine the way they'd always been.

I always enjoy this kind of book! Life is so not perfect that it becomes perfect!

Mildly humorous in a 'what I said' 'but what I really meant' sort of way. Story ended abruptly but the family pet epilogue was touching. Recipes an unexpected. Sort of felt like an abridged story, like reading a novella before its fleshed out. Pleasant reading but I wanted more detail.

Stimson and her family have no idea what they're in for when they up & move to Vermont. Their cluelessness continues to show through as they get into one jam after another with the local folk. Lots of laugh-out-loud moments, and plenty of cringeworthy ones too!
