Mad World is a highly entertaining oral history that celebrates the New Wave music phenomenon of the 1980s via new interviews with 35 of the most notable artists of the period. Each chapter begins with a discussion of their most popular song but leads to stories of their history and place in the scene, ultimately painting a vivid picture of this colorful, idiosyncratic time. Mixtape suggestions, fashion sidebars, and quotes from famous contemporary admirers help fill out the fun. Participants include members of Duran Duran, New Order, The Smiths, Tears for Fears, Adam Ant, Echo and the Bunnymen, Devo, ABC, Spandau Ballet, A Flock of Seagulls, Thompson Twins, and INXS.

When it comes to the many, many different eras that have successfully flourished throughout the ever-evolving realm of pop music history - For me, it's the "New Wave" music of the 1980s that consistently proves to be one of my all-time favorites.

"Mad World" is a generously illustrated pictorial documentation that offers the reader brief, but, equally informative profiles of 50 of the top recording artists who reigned supreme during that dynamically creative time-frame in pop music's bygone days.

The "New Wave" movement that took place in the realm of pop music history (during the 1980s) has always held a special interest for me. There can be no denying that there was a lot of really great music happening back then (especially coming from that one particular country across the Atlantic known as the U.K.).

If the "New Wave" era also has a special appeal to you, then, "Mad World" offers you a first-rate pictorial documentation that delivers the whole story in an easy-to-appreciate fashion.

If you are interested in the history of the 2nd British Invasion in the realm of pop music - Then - "Mad World" is a very informative pictorial documentary written for your reading pleasure.

Compiled by co-authors, Lori Majewski and Jonathan Bernstein - "Mad World" focuses in on 35 of the top recording artists from a decade that (IMO) produced some of the most memorable music of all time..... (*I've included a "Tears For Fears" music-video here*)

Featuring an impressive collection of photos - "Mad World" is quite a lively and colorful verbal history showcasing the post-punk music revolution of the 1980s.

This glossy book of 300+ pages focuses in on the 35 biggest recording artists of the MTV generation (with an odd exclusion of the Eurythmics) and their ultimate #1 hit song.

From my perspective - (When it comes to pop music history) - "Mad World" is the sort of book that should appeal to quite a wide audience of readers.

(*Be sure to watch the Ultravox "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" music-video*)

As they say, if you can remember the 80s, well, you know they weren't that great. Yet people can't seem to stop doing films and TV shows (I'm watching Netflix "GLOW" as I type this.) set in the era and writing books about the pop culture, especially the music and movies. This frivolous book focuses on "New Wave" songs from the decade and, if you're a fan, you might quibble with their definition (The Smiths are not New Wave.) and with the authors' choices, but that's the point of books like this. Still, New Order, Depeche Mode, and Echo, but no Cure? The authors did manage to interview many of the participants and there are some great pictures. Does this book need to exist? Not really, but it's fun. Foreword by Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes and afterword by Moby (why?). If you love the 80s, you should run like Flock of Seagulls to get this.
