"When twentysomething A., the European relative of the Wells family, inherits a beautiful yet eerie estate set deep in the woods of Point Bless, Virginia, it comes as a surprise to everyone--including A. himself. After all, he never knew he had a 'second cousin, twice removed' in America, much less that his eccentric relative had recently committed suicide by jumping out of the third floor bedroom window--at the same age and in the same way as his father had before him"

I'm still trying to figure out what I think of this book. I found it a bit slow, but yet intriguing in the concept of combining letters, diary entries, cryptography notes, and transcripts of video & audio recordings as the method to tell the story of a strange, perhaps haunted house, the two new occupants and the mystery of the previous owner's secret society.
(Somewhat spoiler ahead) But what has me scratching my head is the change to a violent direction in the last 30 pages or so. I think a different path toward the (another spoiler) somewhat surprise ending could have been better approached.

While waiting for Edgar Cantero’s new novel "Meddling Kids," I decided to check his earlier title "The Supernatural Enhancements." I’m so glad I did. Readers who enjoy complex gothic tales will find much to occupy their minds here including an X-Files loving protagonist, a haunted house setting, and a plot involving a secret society with a truly convoluted mission. There’s quite a lot of fiendishly difficult cryptography to decode, and the house naturally includes a garden labyrinth. If all this isn’t puzzling enough, the story is told entirely through documents such as diaries, letters, and transcripts. This is a book to get your head spinning in a good way.
