This is a painstaking walk through the history of whether there is a link between autism and vaccination of children. It's a sobering tale, which highlights the difficulties of public health trying to argue a case against charismatic near-charlatans, parents of hurt children who are desperately looking for a reason why their children have been affected, and public figures spreading the sympathetic tale with villainous bureaucracy as the enemy. The result is that large numbers of children are not being vaccinated, and they or others (often babies too young to vaccinate) are catching diseases that are preventable, and some of those are dying unnecessary deaths.
