The narration is clear but slightly irritating,. The narrator has a staccato, just shy of robotic, rhythmic voice which condenses at the cost of irritation. The work itself is worth reading/listening to he does an excellent job of showing the other side of an unconcious bias most of us hold against the middle ages in general and the catholic church specifically. He goes too far in the other direction seeing a monolithic, noble, and innocent in what is (and has been) a complex institution riddled with human failings over its history. He glosses over these and focuses on the examples of good work and good people. In short he gives a cogent catholic defense which exhibits a sightblindness that I've seen in most true believing catholics. However. This does not mean he ought be dismissed. Particularly in that most of what we've read and been taught is just as biased and blind, only in the opposite direction. Therefore you ought to read or listen to this if only to hear the other side of the story. Balance is a good thing. Reality, I tend to believe, lies somewhere in between. Having heard both biases I think I am closer to knowing where it really lay.
