Book News
This is a reprint of a 2010 book. The author is well known in Britain as a radio and TV science personality; his professional field of expertise is astronomy. The book is designed for casual readers. Chapters are organized by field: physics, chemistry, and so on. Within the chapter, subjects are random. In the short astronomy section, the subjects are largely informative, defining terms like “brown dwarf” and “supernova.” Physical science sections follow this general pattern. Life science sections focus less on information and more on controversies and theories in areas such as sociobiology, avoiding details in favor of general claims which may be exaggerated for effect. The book is written in the objective voice. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
