Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. Her punishment is made all the more unbearable by the fact she has to live there with her mother Miriam, a well-intentioned blabbermouth who's convinced that the house is haunted. Kylie dismisses Miriam's superstitions as nothing more than a distraction from a life occupied by boiled vegetables & small-town gossip.

Unfortunately, I did not see the humour in this film at all. It had a good build-up, keeping my interest until just after the half-way mark in duration. At this point, to the conclusion, it lost its appeal.

Very funny throughout. Self-aware. Intelligent plot and effective pacing. Solid to great acting across the cast. Good sense of tension, fun horror elements that are not gratuitous in their violence. Totally worth the watch. Certainly worth watching again with friends to share it with them and to enjoy all over again.

Brilliant, dark, creepy, and funny as Kiwi horror.

A series of misunderstandings, coincidence, and simply the absurd make this an enjoyable parody of haunted house films.

Sullen teen runaway Kylie gets busted for trying to rob an ATM with her less than competent partner. She's sentenced to a fate worse than death--she has to move back in with her relentlessly chatty, cheery mother, who lives in a dark, dreary house with an even darker, drearier basement. What's worse, Mom believes the house is haunted--and it just might be.

What Simon Pegg did for zombie pictures in "Shaun Of The Dead", "Housebound" does for the late, great Wes Craven's under rated "The People Under The Stairs". There's no lack of suspects-from the Sean Bean look-alike next neighbor who skins animals to Kylie's goofy parole officer who doubles as a ghost hunter. The mystery and horror is tempered by a lot of dry British wit. When Kylie finds a ghost-like figure in a sheet, she cries out "Jesus!"--and a statue of the Savior is exactly what's under that sheet.

This is a great Halloween rental for tweens and teens who like their haunted house movies scary but not too bloody, and leavened with a lot of wry, dry wit.

I loved this movie. Reminded me of Drag Me To Hell. It's funny in an outrageous way with impossible twists and turns and just the right amount of gore - when you least expect it. A must see.

Unique...both scary and funny. Dark comedy.

I loved this movie. It was a little creepy, really funny and sorta strange. If you like creepy/funny, then you should see it.

Excellent performances combined with a spooky script and a dash of humor. I especially liked the feisty young lady. A surprising find.

Well done horror thriller with some laughs. Not your usual haunted house flick. Well done.
