Errol Flynn is one of Hollywood's greatest leading men: a lusty and vivacious actor who lived a swashbuckling life of glamour and scandal on and off the screen. Btu few remember the icon's last May-December romance that shocked a nation. It's a sensational, unforgettable look at Hollywood's golden age and the desire for fame and acceptance.

The common reaction to this movie is that Kline and Sarandon were good, "but"... I thought I'd give the film a chance, as I've often had the experience of disagreeing with the consensus on film reviews. This time, I must agree. Particularly Kevin Kline makes the film worth watching. As a movie, it's barely on the level of a passable TV movie; but Kline's acting is so deft and expert, it's a pleasure to watch him. Sarandon is excellent as well, particularly when she gives certain looks that are perfect for the moment. She inhabits the role of a dowdy housewife-cum-stage-mother with expertly restrained flair. Dakota Fanning is evidently an accomplished actress, though it seems in this film she unintentionally balanced a presence that was at once unimpressive and yet somehow understandably alluring to Errol Flynn. Amusingly, I note that while she was playing the role of a 15-year-old girl whom some mistook for 18, Fanning herself was 20 at the time of filming.

Just to be clear - this is not an "entertainment" movie.
Kline and Sarandon give good performances.
Another sad commentary how messed up people are/were especially with the consumption of drugs and alcohol.

I agree that Kevin Kline was ideal for this part. I too find these (partial) biopics interesting. A sad and swift ending to an original in (talking) film's earlier days. The scourge of addiction has snuffed out hundreds of them, if not thousands. Bela Lugosi would be a prime example. Very sad.

EXCELLENT, A MUST SEE.
I RECALL HIS BOOK "'MY WICKED WICKED WAYS" AND THE TERM "IN LIKE FLYNN". I WAS ALIVE WHEN HE WAS A STAR. NEVER KNEW ABOUT HIS TEENAGE GIRL FRIEND. KEVIN KLINE WAS A NATURAL TO PLAY THE PART. I LIKE TRUE STORIES. LOTS OF TRIVIA AND VIDEO ON THE INTERNET UNDER BEVERLY AADLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

An alcoholic show-biz mother panders her 15 year old ambitious daughter to a 50 year old alcoholic 'has-been',.. and careers stagger along.
But they really love each other.

The Errol Flynn impersonation doesn't add much to a well-acted but basicly uninteresting script.

This film is about Errol Flynn's (Kevin Kline) last days with his teen age girlfriend Beverly Aadland (Dakota Fanning). Susan Sarandon plays Beverly's mother Florence. The script is based on the book Florence wrote. It has solid performances by all, but moved a little too slow for me. I just couldn't get interested in the characters and there lives. If you are interested in the life of Errol Flynn, you will like this film.
