Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive. If Detective Helen Grace hadn't spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn't believe them. This case, with its seemingly random victims, has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense....

The first book in the Helen Grace series

Curl your hair thriller! I hope I never have to make the choices the poor victims have to make in this book. I will be reading more by Arlidge for sure.

I love mystery/thrillers and this one was top notch. I won't reveal much but there is a detective and there is a serial killer and it keeps you on your toes the entire time. I highly recommend this book if you love the mystery/ thriller genre. My only complaint was the ending felt very abrupt and I wanted more...

Starts well, but turns into yet another genius sadistic serial killer book.

This is a debut novel that fulfills all you want in a thriller. Dark secrets, interesting characters that fill the pages with action and making you want more. The main character is a continuing character in a new series of books, that will be drawing many followers as you will want to find out more about Inspector Helen Grace. Highly recommend.

This is a book about pairs of people that are abducted, given a gun and told the only way of escape is to kill the other person. This psychological thriller has many twists with a surprising ending. This is the first in a new series and I want to read more.

I started this novel but I found the sadistic violence all a bit too much. It seemed totally there for the sake of violence. Did not finish the book.
