In their final year at Muncie's Southside High School, a group of seniors hurtles toward maturity with a combination of joy, despair, and an aggravated sense of urgency. They are also learning a great deal about life, both in and out of school, and not what school officials think they are teaching.

An awesome and astounding look at teenagers in an Indiana high school and a little insight into what their homelife might be like - the footage that has been captured by the filmmakers is astonishingly direct and revelatory. I only wonder if these people were 'acting' for the camera or not - it seems pretty real to me but I could be wrong. It is worth mentioning that PBS wouldn't air this back in 1982 - I wonder if it would make it to air even now. It's unfortunate that there are no extras on the DVD - I'd be interested in hearing about how this was filmed and other background details. The unused footage from this would be fascinating to watch. Kudos to all who participated in the project - this is as fine a documentary as you're going to see on any subject.
