Another shark movie. Not much of a story.

Nov 13, 2017

Well-produced with a strong female character who strategizes her way out of a life-or-death situation when she winds up stranded in a very angry shark's territory, just a couple hundred yards from safety. Blake Lively does a good job portraying a grief-stricken daughter who visits her mom's "special beach" to find solace, solitude, and surfing. There's also a uniquely American take on traveling alone, holding your own, and trusting the people you meet. The ever-present connectivity of technology has its plusses and minuses, including Google's silly substitution for some Spanish translations.

Same old shark stuff!

Pretty good movie. Sharks make great bad guys.

Yikes! Mostly very intense and shark-scary! Beautiful surfing footage! Loved the companion seagull; felt sad about the whale.

this movie scared the shit outta me I recommend this to any horror fan

A surprisingly taut thriller. Despite being hindered by a limited cast of characters and unchanging scenery, this films maintains a fast pace that holds its audience until its, albeit predictable, thrilling climax.

This is a great movie, it has a good story line and very good acting by Blake Lively.
I found it to be very realistic and believeable. Loved the seagull,
and the location was perfect.

The first rule of Fight Club is to not talk about Fight Club. The first rule of surfing and swimming in open water is that you never go out alone. So that's when my first eyeroll and sigh came and things steadily went down from there. It was so unbelievable and silly that it became unwatchable. I'd get up and make a sandwich and come back to see if she'd made it to shore yet. You can do that and miss nothing.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: Despite its PG-13 rating this film is intense. There is a prodigious amount of blood and a very graphic suture scene.

The setting:
Guess where I am? Tijuana.
-Oh, my God. No way. Mom's beach, right?
It's just as beautiful as she said it was.
Anything gnarly out here, I should know about?
-There's some rocks over there! There's only one tide a day, and when the tide gets low, it becomes an island. There's some nasty fire coral. It stings like a jellyfish.
It's April 26, 2016. Uh, if you find this, please send help right away. I've been attacked by a shark. He's killed three other people since I got here. He's still circling, so... Uh, he's got this big old whale over here, but that-that's the problem. I swam right up onto his feeding ground.
