Carol Garhart Mooney has been an early childhood professional for more than forty years and is currently the executive director at Holy Cross Early Childhood Center in Manchester, New Hampshire. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in early childhood education. She has completed coursework for a doctorate in sociology of the family.
Mooney, a retired professor, preschool teacher, and Head Start program manager and mentor, offers a discussion of the link between educational theory and practice in early childhood education. She discusses the relevance of theories, developing theories from research and observation, and how they are applied; how to learn theories and support their learning; and possible solutions to change professional preparation in educational theory.
