NOW A USA TODAY AND PUBLISHERS WEEKLY BESTSELLER! "Every page is packed with both peril and exquisite writing, and the novel reads like a wholly unique cross between Somewhere in Time and Memento. You won't be able to put it down!" (David Bell, author of Since She Went Away) From bestselling author A.J. Banner comes a dazzling new novel of psychological suspense in the vein of S.J. Watson's Before I Go to Sleep and Mary Kubica's The Good Girl that questions just how much we can trust the people around us.Thirty-four-year-old marine biologist Kyra Winthrop remembers nothing about the diving accident that left her with a complex form of memory loss. With only brief flashes of the last few years of her life, her world has narrowed to a few close friendships on the island where she lives with her devoted husband, Jacob. But all is not what it seems. Kyra begins to have visions—or are they memories?—of a rocky marriage, broken promises, and cryptic relationships with the island residents, whom she believes to be her friends. As Kyra races to uncover her past, the truth becomes a terrifying nightmare. A twisty, immersive thriller, The Twilight Wife will keep readers enthralled through the final, shocking twist.

This is my introduction to the author, and it was very satisfactory. A quick read, it was easy to get in the mood for the next chapter. I did not find it to be that ingenious of a plot, but the conceit of memories lost worked well. And you can't beat the location. There were a few moments when I feared it might devolve into romance suspense, but it never crossed that line.

The book presents a very different challenge, compared to the typical mystery novel. It’s not just a matter of identifying culprits; the bigger challenge is uncovering the crime. There’s no dead body in the parlor. Even if you figure out who did it, I doubt that you will see what was done until the final shocking revelation. You know something is wrong on the twilight wife’s little island paradise, thanks to the publisher’s overly informative synopsis on the cover. Happily, that didn’t spoil the fun. This is a page turner that I had to finish in one sleepless night. The author also offers often delightful and always informative material on amnesia, marine biology, Pacific Northwest climate and geography, and internet vulnerabilities. A very good read.

A nice-paced thriller that isn't as twisted or disturbing as "Gone Girl" or "The Girl on the Train" (yay!).
