To the universe, eight days is a mere blip, but to Matty Jones, it may be just enough time to change his life. On the hot summer day Mattys dad leaves for good, a strange girl suddenly appears in the empty field next to the Jones farmthe very field in rural Pennsylvania where a spaceship supposedly landed fifty years ago. When he was a kid, he and his dad searched the skies and studied the constellations. But all of that is behind him. Dads gonebut now theres Priya. She must be crazy&right? This book was a wild ride, I can tell you that. I went into this thinking it would be leaning more towards science fiction; what I got was not that, per se, but it was equally as riveting. Matty’s dad runs away with his brother’s wife, and Matty and his mom are left alone on the family farm. Next to the farm is a field where a spaceship ‘landed’ 50 years back. When a strange girl appears there and claims she is an alien, Matty doesn’t know what to think. Over the course of 8 days, Matty learns about himself, about love, loss, and the possibilities that lurk in every corner. Now, this is as far as I can go without completely ruining your experience with this novel, but I promise you will not be disappointed. There is a twist ending that left me gaping like a fish, completely and utterly shocked (!!!!) but I swear it is SO worth it! Beware: tears up ahead. Happy reading! 4/5 stars.
