This book is a cookie cutter mystery/thriller. There's nothing terribly extravagant about it. It's short and simple.
It's well written, the writing itself isn't the interesting part of the book, the writing is just a means to an end, to deliver the story. It filled a narrative void in me; to listen to a simple, by the book mystery. Like sitting down with tomato soup to watch an old familiar movie.
I've rated it so high because I think it's a cozy introduction to mystery novels and I've read worse.
